What do you do when it’s sunny in February? Get out of the office and shoot!
I spent the afternoon yesterday with Kacy Kizer, Molly pictured here, and Portland makeup artist, Nicole Wagner. I say that made a great team! What say you?
This wedding was a splendid experience all the way through to delivering Scott and Danielle’s album, from which I’ve included some of my favorite pages. I thought it’d be fun to see some of the photos on their own, and then as they fit into the story telling aspect of a wedding album.
Here are the people behind all the great work in making Scott and Danielle’s wedding day so great:
Getting ready venues: The Governor Hotel and the 12W
Wedding venue: St. Mary’s Cathedral
Reception venue: Portland Golf Club
Wedding gown: Anna’s Bridal
Music: …
Nice work Kevin! I really like them in the wedding pages…keep up the good work! B.

This is one of my all time favorite sets of portrait photos and it’s from a Central Oregon wedding! Combine Sunriver, with great sunny fall weather, vibrant fall colors and Ben & Adrianne’s magazine appeal, and we were bound to get photos like these. Have a favorite? Pick one and let everyone know in the comments!
You can see their wine tasting engagement photos too.

It turns out that my Google SEO efforts are working better than expected so I’m rewriting this review to be more concise and informative at the same time. Two years ago, I posted a review of MoneyWell. However, I have something new to share called YNAB. Keep in mind this recommendation is for personal finance software for Mac, and while it may be used for business, I use Quickbooks for that. Although I’m a photographer currently, my background includes the use of my MBA degree in Finance and Quantitative …

Hi Kevin, this is a great post. Thanks for sharing your unique insight. Is there anything out there for businesses (I’m a photog too) to consider before jumping into Quickbooks? Does Q.B. work for businesses run in other countries or is it US specific? Thanks for your time!
Thanks for the question! The main reason I chose QB for the business was that it’s a standard for my tax accountant to work with in filing my returns. If all you need to do is track your business income and expenses and keep track of your cash flow, YNAB would work great for that. It’s very simple compared to QB. Regarding international versions of QB, I took a quick look around and didn’t find anything for Switzerland specifically (great work on your site by the way), but I did find some Quickbooks International information.
Kevin: I see your point and those are the two softwares that I am looking at. My concern with YNAB is that it doesn’t appear to have a simple checkbook reconciliation feature. That seems a little short sighted. I do want to get deeper into budgeting but I still have the mundane need to keep my check book balanced and I don’t want to have to purchase more software for that.

This Oregon coast wedding took place in Cannon Beach. Of course, with Haystack Rock as the backdrop in many of these pictures, I probably didn’t need to tell you that!
Matt & Erin’s wedding started with some heavy showers. Okay, they were absolute downpours! Check out the photos of guests huddled under their umbrellas, that is if their umbrella hadn’t blown inside out. Partway through their ceremony, the clouds broke and we had some amazing light and scenery for photos.
I think my absolute favorite photo is the vertical one …

You know what’s crazy?! I had the exact same Bridesmaid dresses in my wedding and our flower bouquets were VERY similar. Too funny!

I’m reaching deep into the archives here for this post. But I had to! With the Ducks playing for the national title, what else was I to do? These photos are of wedding clients from 2006. I drove down to Eugene to shoot Drew & Brittany’s engagement photos. Drew played football for the Ducks so he knew the secrets to get into Autzen Stadium. Okay, so there weren’t any special secrets, just a punch code for the players. But it …

I know coming from me, tips on finding a wedding photographer might be easily disregarded. However, these come straight from past couples after bad experiences with other vendors involved with their wedding day. I’m simply using my voice to share some of my clients concerns and to make sure their voices will help others. In response to their concerns, I’ve put together a few thoughts from an insiders perspective on the photography industry specifically that I hope will be helpful!
In these conversations, whenever there are frustrations or disappointments, they tend …

Happy New Year everyone! Or is that just a euphemism for “welcome back to your desk?”
Are you looking for a venue with a view? If so, aYoungberg Hill Vineyards wedding will definitely deliver.
As a wedding photographer, one thing I really appreciate about the venue is that there is a scenic backdrop in every direction. So what does that mean? No squints in your portraits because the sun can always be put at your back and you’ll still have an amazing background! You’ll notice …

These are a few of my favorite photos from a downtown Portland wedding last year at the Embassy Suites Hotel. It was a winter wedding just before Christmas and it was fun to see that influence on all the details. Dani Ross, owner of Weddings Fresh, did an amazing job making that happen…from wintry edibles (chocolate everywhere!) to ornaments as seating place cards. Nicole’s dress was absolutely beautiful too including a fur shoulder wrap which was perfect for such a cold day. But of course, one shouldn’t expect anything less …
