Fashion Portraits with Molly

What do you do when it’s sunny in February? Get out of the office and shoot!
I spent the afternoon yesterday with Kacy Kizer, Molly pictured here, and Portland makeup artist, Nicole Wagner. I say that made a great team! What say you?

Personal Finance Software for Mac 2011 | YNAB

It turns out that my Google SEO efforts are working better than expected so I’m rewriting this review to be more concise and informative at the same time.  Two years ago, I posted a review of MoneyWell.  However, I have something new to share called YNAB.  Keep in mind this recommendation is for personal finance software for Mac, and while it may be used for business, I use Quickbooks for that. Although I’m a photographer currently, my background includes the use of my MBA degree in Finance and Quantitative …

    Matthew Anderson :

Hi Kevin, this is a great post. Thanks for sharing your unique insight. Is there anything out there for businesses (I’m a photog too) to consider before jumping into Quickbooks? Does Q.B. work for businesses run in other countries or is it US specific? Thanks for your time!

    Kevin Meyers (author):

Thanks for the question! The main reason I chose QB for the business was that it’s a standard for my tax accountant to work with in filing my returns. If all you need to do is track your business income and expenses and keep track of your cash flow, YNAB would work great for that. It’s very simple compared to QB. Regarding international versions of QB, I took a quick look around and didn’t find anything for Switzerland specifically (great work on your site by the way), but I did find some Quickbooks International information.

    Dave :

Kevin: I see your point and those are the two softwares that I am looking at. My concern with YNAB is that it doesn’t appear to have a simple checkbook reconciliation feature. That seems a little short sighted. I do want to get deeper into budgeting but I still have the mundane need to keep my check book balanced and I don’t want to have to purchase more software for that.

Portland Industrial Photo | Inspired By Brassai

I suppose this post isn’t so much about the photo which has been on my Facebook page a while, but more about some of the photographers that have inspired me since I was first bitten by “the bug.” Perhaps you’ll be inspired by them as well!
Back in 2001, I’d spend my Saturdays at Borders consuming coffee and everything photo related. After choosing a photography magazine, an instructional book and a collection of work from highly regarded photographers throughout history, the gorging would begin.
One of my favorites was, and …

Personal Finance Software for Mac | Moneywell

UPDATED WITH AN ENTIRELY NEW POST…CLICK HERE
I’ve been up half the night due to the excitement. What could be so great?! I finally found personal finance software for Mac that helps me relate to my money the way I want to. Any Mac user will understand how awesome that is. After trying Quicken, iBank, Moneydance and others, MoneyWell has got me hooked! Here’s why I’m excited (both about the software and about my financial future).
Let’s start with a little commentary on personal finances for the …

Have you tried successwear? I am trying to find something and am leaning towards successwear but still not one hundred percent sure. Thanks!

I have…and within 15 minutes I was lost. It will do everything you would ever want for business, but I prefer to keep it more simple with Quickbooks. Again, that’s for business. I wouldn’t use MoneyWell for biz, but it’s incredible for personal.

    Brian Beazely :

I’m downloading it right now…I’ll let you know my thoughts.

    Justin Yuen :

Insightful and passionate post! Thanks for the tip.

Sports Modeling Test Shoot

A while back, a friend of mine was in the hunt for a job in sports modeling. It was fun to get out and shoot something so different. We headed down to a few areas around the East Side Esplanade and the Willamette River. It turns out the weather was perfect and the sky was just right. Of course if you ask Amy, she might have another opinion about shooting on a cold and mostly cloudy day. hah

Here’s a cool thing to share with all of you. Some of Portland’s best photographers have joined forces! We all face the same issues as small business owners so we decided to start a collaborative blog in the spirit of helping each other gain more exposure (ooh…bad pun…definitely not intended). hah
It’s already been a great resource in a number of ways. One stop shopping for brides. One stop inspiration for each of the contributing photographers. I can see already that there is a huge …

extreme makeover: web edition

Ahhh, it feels like a new era for Kevin Meyers Photography! So what does a person do to convey that? Why they build a completely new website with all new work and features of course!! I’m really excited for this launch and all that it means for me, my clients, other photographers and all interested people.
Since my last web update I’ve stretched my legs a bit shooting weddings around the country and abroad. Being able to showcase that work and capture the attention of discerning brides …

    Joni Shimabukuro :

Once again Kevin you have upped the bar. An idea pops in my head, I search for examples and there you are….again. You are always cutting edge. But not only that, your warm, humorous and engaging personality shows through in your writing. Fabulous site! I am envious – so much talented in one man.

    Kevin Meyers (author):

Hey Joni! So I hit the mark…I was hoping to create a blog where that could happen. :) Thanks for the kind words. What is your idea? Let me know if I can help.
